I had the pleasure of experiencing InterContinental San Diego, California ‘s Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room during Chris and I’s recent visit to the lovely San Diego. And I must say it was a very pleasant stay!
InterContinental San Diego location
My bestie Chris got the InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room because he wanted to be in downtown San Diego for the weekend. And the InterContinental San Diego is literally right off the waters close to Seaport Village, a waterfront dining and shopping area adjacent to San Diego Bay. Within walking distance, there is the Fish Market Restaurant that has the best sushi bar in all of San Diego! I’ve lived in San Diego for 14 years and I’ve had many fishies at many sushi parlors. Fish Market still serves the best sushi in San Diego, bar none. The sushi Chefs are actually from Tokyo too, land of the real sushi!
One more thing on location of this conveniently located San Diego accommodation is that the InterContinental San Diego ‘s building is next door to Residence Inn + SpringHill Suites. They actually face each other. So if you’re a Marriott fan instead (like yours truly), you could opt for next door accommodation instead. I haven’t stayed there yet but their building is not as tall and seems to be plenty of kids at the pool. Good for family but not for singles like us!
InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View
InterContinental San Diego ‘s website states that the Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room as “on our top floors and face directly west. Their location, along with two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows, deliver unforgettable sunsets over the bay.” This is true as the room faces the west where you have the Navy pier that hosts The USS Midway Museum, a historical naval aircraft carrier museum (yeah the museum is an actual navy airplane ship!). You also have the The Port Pavilion, on Broadway Pier which is a cruise ship terminal and special events space on San Diego Bay’s Embarcadero.
Big International cruise ships like Holland America also dock at the adjacent B-Street Pier & Cruise Ship Terminal. As you can see, there’s a plenty of ship action on the bay worth watching from the InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room. Oh there’s also the Star of India, a restored, iron-hulled windjammer built in 1863 ? that is now a museum that sometimes sails. Lots of panoramic naval action viewable right from the comfort of your corner room!
The Beds in InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room
Now let’s talk about the beds. Chris got us the 2 Queens Room so we can each have our own Queen bed like the Royals that we are! ?LOL! And they were just DIVINE!!! The beddings are luxe, the pillow top mattress pad was lush; it was like sleeping on clouds OMG! I’ve slept on many, many, MANY hotel beds and the InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room’s bed is high up there! The pillows are plush too – you get 2 kinds; 2 foamy for your head and the other 2 are squishy down-like (I think they are artificial down to avoid allergies) for hugging.
Naturally I gotta take a selfie with the fabulous bed.? By the way, their InterContinental robe was also fabulously luxurious! ?
By the way, have you considered these must-haves for your travel packing list?
The Panoramic Water View is made possible by Floor-to-Ceiling Windows!
The glorious views you saw in the beginning of this review is enabled by the floor-to-ceiling windows in this 2 Queens room. Especially glorious because it’s a corner room so you get westward San Diego Bay view as well as the north. You can actually see planes coming into San Diego International Airport from your InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room! Yet you don’t hear any noise from the airport either. It’s pretty sweet really.
Other amenities in this 2 Queens Room
Like any other room at the InterContinental San Diego, this room comes with writing desk with chair, single seater chaise lounge, flat-screen tv, a fridge with mini bar items, security deposit box, iron and ironing board, refreshments including romance kit (read: condoms ?), Keurig coffee maker, clock/radio and last but not least (obvi) complimentary WiFi ! Other services offered are turndown service (umm turn down for WHAT? lol), shoe shine, dry cleaning pickup, same-day dry cleaning and laundry valet.
Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room : Le Bath
The bathroom is nicely lit and modern. I love the gray fractals wallpaper. The glass shower door is a must for me. I would love to have that in my house. They just scream modern and classy. And then there are towels. Towels everywhereeee
There’s 2 shower heads but the hand held one’s water pressure is super weak. While everything else is fancy, I don’t know why they don’t invest in a rainshower head. That’s like a given in fancy hotels. I iz dissapoint. ?
The bath amenities looks all fancy and boutiquey (is that even a word?) in front – as if they are from some Spa in San Francisco. However, when you look at the back label, it says provided by SysCo. ?
That ain’t classy! That’s like a mass-marketed product company. ?Doesn’t even say where they are made in. My guess would be China. Sad! Bigly!
Having said that, the body lotion smells good and the shower gel is a bit harsh/sharp to my skin. I didn’t touch the shampoo or conditioner because I usually bring my own. I’m a snob that way. ?
Also included are some other amenities like sewing kit, emery board etc.
That’s basically what’s in the InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room. Let’s look at some common areas of the hotel.
InterContinental San Diego Lobby Areas
The InterContinental San Diego lobby is actually on the 3rd floor of the hotel instead of the ground floor so find your way to an elevator when you arrive. The lobby is spacious with seating/waiting areas in the front by Concierge and the reception is further back. There’s also the InterContinental San Diego club lounge on the right.
On the right, you will also find InterContinental San Diego’s Vistal Bar + Restaurant. The hotel restaurant overlooks the San Diego Bay. The menu boasts culinary treats by Chefs Amy DiBiase and Paul McCabe, with flavors of Baja peninsula, Pacific Islands, Mediterranean fishing villages and more.
Here’s a closer look at the reception.
Across from the reception area, they also provide some fruit-infused and plain iced water. I like when hotels do this.
InterContinental San Diego Fitness Center Gym
The InterContinental San Diego comes with a very spacious gym with lots of equipment. Check out the pictures below. Lots of spin bikes.
Here’s Chris channeling his spin cycle instructor alter ego hehe
Elliptical machines ! Oh my!
Treadmills galore!
Also rows and rows of exercise machines. If you’re a gym bunny, this is the perfect hotel gym for you!
Plenty of fresh towels provided too.
InterContinental San Diego Night View
The night view from the gym is also lovely. You can see the San Diego Bay as well as part of downtown.
Here’s an amazing sunset view of San Diego Bay from the Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room.
Here’s another night view from the InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room. As you can see it overlooks the pool area of the hotel.
Final Words on InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room
So on your next trip to lovely San Diego, I can definitely recommend the Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room at the InterContinental San Diego. I’m a Marriott fan but the ideal location, the view (18th floor definitely does the trick), the plush bedding etc as I’ve shared above could give Marriott a run for her money!
The hotel is a walking distance to USS Midway ship and Fish Market restaurant, the Star of India as well as across the street from the port. ProTip: If you’re taking the cruise, come for cocktails at lobby bar even if you don’t stay here before/after the cruise.
Oh one thing though, there is self-parking for $38 bucks per night (which is absurd!). Thus, I would suggest you park at airport parking lots like Park N Fly for cheaper $15 AAA rate then take a short Lyft/Uber to the hotel. That’s what I did because I had my own rental car and Chris had his.
Other than the expensive parking, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the InterContinental San Diego Corner Panoramic Water View 2 Queens Room. Thanks Chris for the hospitality! ?
Don’t forget about these important items to bring with you when you travel!
